[FORTHCOMING EXHIBITION] Tales from the Singapore River, 1965
This art and poetry exhibition celebrates the rich heritage of Singapore by featuring a series of original oil paintings by the renowned artist, MG Kumar, each paired with a poem by a local poet. Specifically, the collection captures the changing faces of the Singapore River from dawn to dusk, symbolically exploring the progression of Singapore’s commercial hub through the ages. Journey with us down the river, as we reminisce on this historic site where the seeds of today’s thriving Central Business District were first sown. In our travels, we catch glimpses of other important places that drew their lifeblood from this this river, and we reflect with bittersweet nostalgia on the historic events like the clean-up of Singapore River in the 1977 that both transformed and revitalised the river.
Through the unique palette knife technique of MG Kumar, this exhibition recasts familiar landscapes in new light, blending realistic and impressionistic styles to bring newfound enchantment to these historic places.
